Take a walking tour through the mansion that wealthy widow Sarah Winchester built after the untimely deaths of her baby daughter and husband, heir to the Winchester Rifle fortune. With 160 rooms, and bizarre architectural features, like a window built into the floor, staircases leading nowhere, and doors that open into blank walls, the mansion was in a constant state of construction for 38 years.

In 1884, Sarah Winchester began construction on the mansion that kept carpenters and craftsmen on the job 24 hours per day until her death 38 years later. It is believed that Mrs. Winchester was convinced by a medium that continuous building would appease the evil spirits of those killed by the famous "Gun that Won the West", the Wincheter Rifle. 

The Victorian mansion, designed by Sarah herself, is an architectural marvel. Unlike most homes of its era, this 160-room Victorian mansion had modern heating and sewer systems, gas lights, three working elevators, and 47 fireplaces. From rambling roofs and exquisite hand inlaid parquet floors to the gold and silver chandeliers and Tiffany art glass windows, you will be impressed by the staggering amount of creativity, energy, and expense poured into each and every detail.
